almost the end of the year...
two more days till the new year. it is midsummer here and instead of sunshine we have incessant rain.
makes everything grow but not good for living and playing outdoors. the rain is cold.
must be the melting icecap in antarctica. the water got to go somewhere.
went down to the old place today. have almost finished moving all my stuff from the storge unit to my new abode in Masterton.
Much nicer than the old dive. It was crummy and the management needs some outside inspection for an organisation that professes to care but is instead intent on using every other penny to build yet another monument to themselves. they seem to have knack for employing people who dont know what they are doing but they don't care as long as they are in charge. pretty sad really. however their time will come.
btw I got chipped the other day for taking potshots at St Marks church. I was brought up in the church. One grandfather was at Gallipoli and the Western Front and the other was a Salvation Army orphan sent to Masterton to found the original Corps there in the early 1900's. My family were fair, honest, decent and not devious and holding high opinions of themselves. Anyway the last three clergy at St Marks have been duds. One thought it was the back door to the bishopric in Wellington, nah, another was out drinking and getting stoned to all hours Saturday night before turning up on Sunday morning to deliver the sermon still half cut. The last lot were a pair from the bureaucracy in Wellingotn who thought they were being given a handy little retirement package. Her last sermon I listened to was not a sermon but a travelogue of her trip to England!!! Her husband one unordained roger wigglesworth/jobsworth was a maven at internal affairs and gives these theologastrian i.e. shallow paltry sermons about nothing really that he has cribbed from one of those books about christianity you buy in the thrift shops. The point is upon arrival in Carterton he was immediately given a seat on the Carter Court board. He told me my "CASE" had been noted by the board when somebody else who attends the meetings told me no. and who was he serving? The parish or his own ego? this will be the last time I will mention the rotten treatment dished out by yokels who think their own shit doesn't stink and that they can ride roughshod over anyone who gets in their way.
as the bible says: leave that place and shake the dust from your feet and leave the ingrates to themselves!
besides when I packed up I have somehow mislaid my copy of The Contemporary Philosophy Of The Social Sciences by Brian Fay. A very important treatise where he skewers the you have to be one to know one and other dodgy arguments that celebrate difference instead of acknowledging similarities. I love his argument that if a language does not have a negation then it is no language at all only noises.
one last trip should dig it out.
in the meantime I found Chuck Yeagers bio and Tacitus' "Annals Of Imperial Rome which has the previous owners name inscribed on the cover. GB Cowie. One of the local physicians in the 50's and 60's.
Makes me wonder how many of the local GP's read Tacitus anymore?
Yeagers bio I can always reread. It is a story of character and as both Sigmund Freud and JP Morgan opined character is always the most important thing!
